Has anyone Bicycle Insurance with the above company (Cycle Sure)? I've received a very good quotation from them, but looking for any views or opinions on them before I proceed.

    Thanks,

Save your money for another bike instead.

Or see can you insure as an 'all risks' item on your home policy. That costs me about €10 pa to cover €800. Goes up a bit sharply as the value increases though.

Is there any excess with cycle sure bicycle insurance?

I had a look recently, but the terms and conditions and what they didn't cover seemed extensive to me. Just added the bike to my home policy for minimal additional costs.

As cdaly says, might be worth looking into putting it under the house-insurance (assuming you have H.I). My insurer confirmed that it is insured in all reasonable situations, apart from destroying it while in a registered competition/race.

Sorry i cant help you with your actual query though!

Isn't house insurance only cover damage or thieft from a house? If it was stolen outside the house or you get involved in an accident you won't be covered right?

Great crowd to deal with. Cover you in all situations. Peace of mind.

I have my bike on the house insurance, but a mate of mine wrote off a pretty expensive bike and had a replacement thru this crowd.

I crashed my bike in a race about a month ago. Frame was a write off. I had it insured with cyclesure for €2000, cost me about €158 at the time through the link on CI website.

They are after paying out in full with no fuss. To me it was worth it. MIght be worth considering insuring just for value of the frame??

Was thinking of doing this myself. Works out a bit expensive for the whole bike with competition cover but only around 135 Euro for cover for the frame. Realistically that's whats gonna break if you end up crashing in a race.

Is this the option you went with or did you cover the cost of the whole bike the time you went and did it? Just wondering if there would be any issues with covering just the frame.

Is it a one off payment, or do you've to renew annually?

House insurance covers my bike and my dad's bike for €80-something per year, to a value of around €3500 for the two bikes I think. Covers leisure and racing.

Leisure and Racing you say. What company is this with, most do theft and accidental damage but don't cover racing.

Where is the bike stored at night, mine will probably be in a Barna shed, is yours kept in the house?

Shed. I should have said "property insurance", rather than "house insurance".

I am with them. My house insurance only covers bike on property not out racing so better be safe than sorry. My bike was worth 3200euro so wasnt taking any chances when getting it insured. I have every angle covered with cyclesure.

The replacement frame cost was €2000 so thats the amount i insured. Obviously i didn't have to specify what i was insuring so i presume if my wheels/components got damaged i could claim for them too. Up to the value of €2000. When i was claiming i had to give an estimate as to cost of replacing frame inc labour etc. this came in at over €2000 so i was able to claim the full amount. I have components etc and old frame to do with as i please.

It is a one year policy like all insurance.

Sound. That's exactly the cost of replacing my frame. Might go with that option, works out less than €150 I think. Did you include theft protection along with competition insurance? Kind of expensive to insure the whole bike, around €350 I think. Gonna ring them tomorrow I think, peace of mind anyway. Bike is stored in house so theft isn't a huge concern, just want it covered incase any mishaps that might happen in a race.

They have a clause which says your bike must be locked to something fixed in the house. I rang them up and they said it only applies where there is a housemate and lodger scenario. If it's close family or girlfriend then it'sfine and noted the conversation on my policy.

What's more is that the fixed point shouldn't be removable E.g. a banister or a radiator. Very awkward.

No i just covered it for racing. I don't leave it unlocked anywhere outside the home. House was robbed last year and luckily they didn't take the bike. They wouldn't know the value i suppose!

Sound. Think I'm going to get this sorted today. First race on new bike this Saturday and would be far more at ease knowing the frame was covered. Thanks for the info.

All risks household policies will cover items that are temporarily based outside of the house where there is no other policy in effect on the item. The normal limit is quite low for a decent bike but I'm sure you can negotiate for a higher cover limit.

A lot of policies also cover you for third party liability, so if you did have a crash you'd be covered for the damage you did to anyone else. But it won't cover damage to your bike.
