Hi lads, just wondering if anyone has tried this?

I picked up one of these years ago for €40 with a broken headstock

    img126_user7376_szemb-337-l.jpg

was never sure what to do with it until I spotted this on adverts

and then it clicked, add them together to make a poor mans ES335-12!!

only problem is the neck is raw unstained maple, how will I get it to look cherry??

total cost including some nice GFS dream 90's will be a mere €300!

That's gonna be fun. Get a cherry wood stain, just make sure you get cherry red and not cherry wood.

Stewmac do dyes that you mix in with varnish. I've used them several times and they do the job well.

I wonder are they allowed ship them to Ireland though?

no problem shipping them to me in the UK......

the varnish itself might be a different matter......

intonation might be a tab problematic too.....

well, I'd recommend getting a replacement bridge and file the individual saddles to have two seperate string breaks.

again, stewmac have 12 string bridges that you could look at, but they don't do tunomatic ones.....

still the tailpiece will be fuine, just run two strings through each hole.

I've made mandolins and 12 string acoustics with two strings to each bridge pin.... (seriously messes with peoples heads!!!)

I just got a brass tune'o'matic from gfs, it's not filed so you could file it for two strings handy enough. Seems really well built too.

Hey Zafo i seen that one,my main worry Would be that seen as though this neck wasn't made for this body i might need a bit of extra saddle adjustment to intonate properly-this 12 string bridge should allow for a this i hope!

I get ya. Do 12 strings regularly have both strings adjustable separately? My knowledge of 12 string physics is severely lacking but would have thought the two strings would intone the same no matter whether the neck was made for the body or not.

I'd also imagine a very slight difference between the two strings could possibly sound really good.

the pairs of strings need adjusted for intonation seperately. only the top unison pairs are the same.

You COULD file the saddles to make them staggered, and then notch them for the strings.

DOable, but with the rockinger one at only E60, you'd need to be REALLY keen!!

yeah I think the rockinger is the way to go!

    I just love this sound
