Quick question and I assume an easy one for motor folks. I am wondering how I can tell if my 03 VW Golf has an immobiliser? It has an alarm, but not sure about the immobiliser. Anyway I can check?

Have the car a year, second hand.

I'd be very surprised if it didn't.

All European cars sold since 97/98 have a transponder immobiliser built into the key. Basically your car cannot be 'hotwired' without the key. Many aftermarket alarm systems have immobiliser circuits in them which can be wired in when the alarm is fitted. To check if your alarm has an immobiliser, sit in the car, turn on the alarm, wait 45 seconds or so & try to start it. If it starts you just have the transponder immobiliser, if not you have 2 separate immobilisers.

You definitely do, its part of your dash. Your key is coded to the immobilizer. So with or without an alarm your car will not start without your key.
