symbol meanings database??

Does such thing even exist, looking to get some samoan art done on my shoulder similar style to the rock, however upon researching his tattoo it would appear that the symbols all have significance and tell a story, so im looking for information on the different symbols so i can tell my own. thanks

His mother is of Samoan heritage, say it might be hard to make a meaningfull tattoo unless you actually got someone that understood it fully?
Had a quick look online myself and might be hard to find too much info on them.
