Incorrect handicap entries

    Good morning,

Swiped and entered into the last singles competition of the year and my handicap came up as one shot higher than I thought it should be. Initially I thought I must have played somewhere and got a .1 but I looke up my record on golfnet.

To my astonishment I found that there were two rounds on the 16th and 30th September that I apparently played in on an away course and Id missed CSS by 12 and 14 shots and incurred .1's!! Obviously I was not best pleased, as on the 16th I had played in my own course and on the 30th I was away on holiday!

I cut myself for the competition yesterday, had my best round of the year but an extra point would have been sweeter!

I've reported it to our men's committee but Im now thinking that since im a class 1 player that they may not be able to make any adjustments and I'll need to go to the GUI directly.

This ever happen anyone before? Outcome?

Could be someone is using your GUI number to enter Open Comps. In some clubs.....mine included.....you dont have to swipe your card just enter your number to enter the comp.

A friend of mine had a similar issue with opens appearing on his golfnet when he was no where near the comp in question. Ill find out what the outcome was with him.

I'd say definately someone has used your number and signed in. Maybe someone in the away clubs can check back in the sign in sheet and see if they also signed your name. I'd say a strict rule will have to be put in place to only allow sign in with GUI card. I'd say at the moment many clubs are just happy to accept number once they're getting comp entry fees. Hardly going to turn away someone who doesn't have card with them and lose out on the cash. The simply solution is GUI put the rule in place, don't leave it up to the individual club

The only thing is they are both Sunday competitions so more than likely they were members competitions which makes it stranger.

I'll email GUI and the club it happened in to try and rectify.

God help the person if I find out who they are.

I don't take getting .1 back too well!

It could have happened accidently. If you've played that course before you'l appear in the index. some players sign in from the index page alphabetically. I know I've signed in my brother a few times accidently :D

Its most likely someone in ur club, I think the first 4 numbers of GUI card no. are a club identifier and the last 4 are the individuals personal number, if it's a number issue, someone in ur club has got his last 4 numbers mixed up??

Doubt its someonw from my club, as the two competitions don't seem to be opens. I've emailled both my own golf club and the club in question and emailled the GUI. Hopefully it can be easily sorted, but i'm thinking that it won't... :(

Shouldn't be a big issue at all - once the handicap sec is happy you weren't playing they can just delete these entries from your records.

It'll be a whole other joy for the club where the scores originated trying to figure out who it is meant to be!

Thistype of issue happens regularly. People manually put in the number incorrectly at the start.. then they come back in and can't find themselves as they are now using the correct number therefore the first number entered receives .1 back for not returning their score.

I thought i'd just give an update on this, nearly two months later.

A member of the away club has the same name as me and logged in twice as me, hence i received the two scores and the two .1's.

Both handicap secretaries have acknowledged the mistake and have notified the GUI.

As i'm a Class 1 player, my own handicap sec cannot amend my handicap without first receiving a code from the GUI to allow him to do so.

This still hasn't been done so i'm still .2 higher than what i should be :(

Out of interest, how did he log in as you? I thought you had to have your card, or at least your GUI number when logging in.

thats what i would have thought but apparantly they can enter by selecting their name on the computer.

As i'd played that course a couple of times this year, they had me on their system and he selected my records rather than his own.

I had a problem throughout last season with this. Someone, who was eventually found out, was signing in using my number. They were caught when they were asked for their GUI card and couldn't produce it which led to the pro (Who used to be a member where I am) asking what club he was with and he didn't have a clue!

But to follow on it had 4 .1's on my handicap which are STILL there. There is also a cut from a match play competition I won which hasn't gone through. Same situation as yourself, Cat 1 player and GUI haven't updated anything.
