Declaring other income as well as PAYE, easy way to do this?

    Hi Guys,

If I'm a PAYE employee but I also make money from other work I do (lets say I'm a designer in my spare time and invoice people for my hours spent doing this) is there an easy way to declare this as income along with my PAYE salary?

Getting set up as self employed seems a bit complicated, is there a more straightforward way to do so?

    Thanks!

Make a tax return at the end of the year. I think it is Form 11 or 12.

It depends on the level of your other income - if it's less than 50k gross and 3,174 net (i.e after expenses) then you don't need to register as self employed, and can just file a Form 12.

If the income is above the limits then you need to register for self assessment and file a Form 11.

Thanks for that, I'm guessing it would be over the 3174.

Can I be a PAYE worker and self employed at the same time, ie I'd get taxed on my PAYE job but then also fill out Form 11 and pay whatever tax was owed in total based on both incomes combined (minus what was paid by PAYE job) ?
