Saab 93 Vs Volvo S40 repair costs

    Hi All,

I've been reading a lot of threads on Boards.ie about the Saab 93.

I am very tempted by a low mileage 93 with a full service history.

From what I get from the various threads here - should be ok but parts maybe expensive. I currently run an S40 that I have to say is really costing me a lot to keep on the road (service approx 700 quid and there's always something going wrong so it's in the shop at least twice a year). Can anyone offer advice as to whether or not the Saab 93 is likely to cost more to run? (Tax and petrol are similar so not worried about those). Although there's fairly high mileage on the Volvo (150,000 km), I don't do too much mileage these days (about 15,000 km a year) mostly city so I won't be nearing the same mileage in the new car.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

I think it's safe to say the Saab will cost you more. I like the 93 but I wouldn't.

    Don't bother with diesel either.

Sorry, but I disagree. I've driven a 9-3, diesel , for 4 years and covered 120k ms in it with no major issues. I've replaced 2 shocks , brake pads, tyres, 2 drop links, and that's it. Still on original clutch at 167k kms as well. Averaged 43mpg . Considering how cheap Saabs are now, there's value to be had.....

We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
