Freeview channels gone

We live between vavan and monaghan . Up to last week we have had freeview from the north . Then i got a saorview box, tuned in, no problem and got everything on it, saorview and freeview . However , our 5 yr old Sony tv and our 5 yr old Pioneer dvd recorder with hard drive, which had both previously picked up the freeview signal perfectly have now lost most of those channels . We still have all the BBCs and a few other bits and pieces, but even when it picks up the other freeview channels, there is no sound or picture for them, only a black screen .
Now dont get me wrong, i appreciate what we have, but we can no longer watch one channel while recording another. So i would appreciate any advice as to how to proceed

Or wait until Wednesday the dreaded 24th as the signal should improve when all analogue is switched off from Northern Ireland...:D

Recorder wont pick up digital frequencies, only analogue ones. You will have to get a digital recorder

The recorder used to record both digital and analogue, and still does record digital on the channels i outlined .

not sure I understand fully understand you, So can you still watch rte one on saorview Box while the dvd recorder records rte 2 from Saorview Box? Its definitly not the analogue signal its picking up?
Was it analogue signal or digital signal you picked up from the North previously?
How are you picking up the freeview channels from the North? through a satellite or an aerial? Or they now coming through the saorview box?
What freeview channels were/are you getting?

A Saorview box wont pick up digital frequencies from the north properly. You will need to change the settings in the box to UK and then rescan for the channels(Dont know if every saorview box has this feature, built into my TV) or else it will show a blank screen or a picture with no sound.

Are you sure you are getting the digital channels through your DVD recorder. It should only be able to pick up one channel from the saorview box at a time if it does not have a digital tuner built into it. Would a 5 year DVD recorder be able to pick up digital? I doubt it. Like sky still comes through analogue and is digital but tv picks it up as an analogue station.

Freeview (capital F) is the brandname for the UK terrestrial service, received via a UHF aerial. Not on satellite.

It will pick up the standard definition Freeview channels just fine.

@newcavanman, the easiest thing to do is wait until next Wednesday, 24th Oct., when all Freeview services go to their full power allocation & rescan then.

Both our tv and dvd/HDD recorder have inbuilt digital and analogue tuners . Obviously after next week the analogues will be useless, but im hopeing that the digital will continue. i know they wont pick up the saorview, we always knew that as they are Mheg 2 . It was just that the whole NI freeview seems to have gone bananas during the last week, and i have The Boss, chewing my ass to sort it out . as she likes to remind me, " its all you bloody do in this house "
The dvd/hdd is not getting any signal from the saorview, so we are using a memort stick at the moment. i have to say it is very simple to use, i just need to find a way to burn movies to dvd afterwards, as that is what we usually do with the dvd/hdd

As I understand it, the previous temporary low power Freeview is being decomissioned. The BBC channels are available on the former BBC 2 analogue channel and all analogue will be switched off on the 24th when you can receive everything.

Just wait a few days, do one scan, set everything up and you are sorted for a while.
