Sometimes the US releases a movie far in advance of the European release, if not get cancelled for reasons that are beyond us mere mortals

    And I've just found this

For some reason they've delayed the UK and Ireland release. It's obviously being released here to coincide with the mid-term break for schools. Not sure why it's so far behind the US though.

Surely that's a bit of a booboo by the marketing people though or whoever looks after that sort of stuff. released on 8 june in usa, and over 4 months later over here.

For example, my old man is over in the states at the moment, rather than paying a ball of money to bring the kids to the cinema, I'll just get him to pick me up a copy when he's on the way back tomorrow.

That is up to you, but what if you don't like the movie when your old man does buy it?

er, $20 vs €30, and I could theoretically give it to all my friends, so they don't spend their money at the cinema either.

i don't understand where you are coming from?

To be fair, I'm not sure the success of Madagascar 3 in Ireland will live or die by the amount of potential customers who may just happen to have relatives holidaying in the States at this exact time.

I brought the kids to see this today. I am not a huge fan of the franchise but found it rather enjoyable. Once again the penguins steal the show, and I thought the new sealion character was great.
3.5/5. The kids (4&3) lapped it up.

Actually my Kids saw it in Spain in July so looks like held up here and the UK, way to late compared to rest of Europe for some reason, plus with the blu-ray being released in the US, you can be sure there are rips up on the internet, so really bad scheduling not to release close to the american date.

the trailer looks great if that's anything to go by.

Went to see it a week or so back with my four-year old and I enjoyed it. As a previous poster said, the penguins once again steal the show. I thought the animation was top notch and it was clearly designed as a 3D movie from the start which helped. My 4yo loved it!

Its released for the mid terms here. Without being too facetious, the whole kids movie market is split into "can we fill a couple of hours in the day with a treat for the little one" and "can we watch something on TV they'll like"

There's very few kids out there who simply can't wait for Madagascar to be released that they've beeged their parents to download the Rip. If parents are downloading it, and playing it at home, thats their choice

But Dreamworks know a thing or 2 about marketing films and they clearly think they'll do ok with the mid term release.
