Shock absorbers.

I got a pair of rear shocks recently but noticed (after installation! yay!) they were stiffer than the ones they replaced. I suppose that would be great for most lads but now my lower back is sore from them. I did, at the time, check up on what was soft or hard but couldn't find anything and went ahead with what i got.
Is there any way of listing shock absorbers by stiffness. So that i can get some that are softer? I'm starting to groan like an old man here!!:(

You'd probably have to state your make and model of car to get that kind of info.

New shocks will always be stiffer than the old worn out ones. Otherwise the old ones wouldn't need changing!

Agreed. But these new ones are stiff as! Look, everyones shocks are going to be different. Is there somebodys shocks known for being soft? Thats my question.

Not that I know of (uprated parts such as Koni excepted)

What brand were the shocks you fitted?

Most Irish spec Toyota's come with 'rough road' suspension which is a little higher and softer then the standard suspension that most of Europe gets.

Whoever supplied the shocks will likely not have known this and supplied you with the harder standard shocks.

You can't buy shocks for standard cars with variations of hardness/softness. They only come in whatever specs where available from the cars manufacturer originally.
