Saw this yesterday. An IRL numberplate, right hand drive, and insurance disk.

Some kind of temporary reg number?

    Thanks for the answer !

So I assume if you bought from the NI dealer it would be ex-Vat? and you would pay the higher ROI Vat rate along with the VRT.

I wonder if it works out cheaper.

It should be a Northern Ireland yellow plate.

The white one is less likely to attract attention.
We used to do the opposit when traveling to the Uk up to a few years ago, we would change to a yellow rear plate with an Irish reg. in the ferryport, less hassle from the cops.

    Very smart.
Heh try to do it in Germany. Put your Irish reg on Germany style numberplate with "D" letter on the left, to have less hassle from the cops.
If they pull you over, you will probably get arrested for falsifying the numberplate.

I don't think Irish drivers in Germany would have had any hassle compared to the UK.

Why would you have any hassle in UK?

PS - last year I was pulled over in Germany 15km after I crossed the border in Irish registered car in the middle of the night.
Unmarked car tailgated me for 5 minutes, then overtook and displayed text "Polizei - folgen bitte" or sth like that. I followed them for few kilometres until they pulled over to the parking. Then 3 officers in uniforms came off, asked me to stop the engine, put a torch all around me including my eyes, legs, etc..
They asked questions where I was going and what did I have in my car...
They asked to open boot, and as it was pretty full, he started browsing through stuff I had there.
Eventually after about 15 minuts stop they let me go.
I must say it wasn't the nicest think I could encounter.

I think those signs are great after seeing them in the UK, and I'm really surprised they're not used here. I think it's a much better option than gardaí pulling people over on the side of motorways, but who cares about safety!

However, you're a bit screwed if you can't read german in your case!

Quite probably didn't even bother getting the plate made until they got it home, or else they got it made and brought it to the dealer. A dealer up in NI isn't guaranteed to have appropriate blanks to put the IRL eurobar on plates.

Although wherever my brother in law bought his from did!

There was a lot of anti Irish feeling in the UK in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
On a similar note, most Irish truckers travelling to and thru' the UK did the same, as well as not having the old style side markings on the trucks and trailers for the same reason.
