My daihatsu terios 2000 just failed n c t on emissions co2 ,it states above 0.30 is a failure my car was 0.50 .Going for retest tomorrow my mechanic told me my car was burning oil and he put dipthane in tank, plus bardahl no smoke , after testing he told it,s borderline ....is it worth my while spending more money on retest or is there any leeway if its slightly above the 0.30

    ANTO:confused::confused:

A reading of .50 CO doesn't indicate burning oil nor will throwing potions into it help.

    Step 1: New mechanic,

Step 2: proper diagnosis of the issue. Assuming the other emissions readings are OK(lambda, HC) then you likely have an issue with something like an airflow meter, lambda sensor or coolant temperature sensor.

Just had a retest with nct and after all additives to fuel and engine co emissions have increased from 0.50 vol%....to 0.65% in high idle (2.640 rpm...The pass rate is below 0.30% .Is there any remedy for this or will i have to scrap it

As I said, the additives where never going to fix it.

You have a faulty component which needs to be diagnosed and priced.

OP, you still haven't told us what the Lambda and HC results were either, and you've only posted up one figure for high idle.

    You need to post:

    Low idle; HC and CO
High idle; HC, CO and Lambda

We cannot possibly tell you what's wrong based on your scant information at the moment.

if it me .Then full report is
    low idle co 0.31 vol%

    hc151 ppm

    lambda 1.00

    high idle (2.640 rpm) co 0.65 vol%

    hc 99ppm

The HC's are a bit high, especially at idle(although its not tested at idle) which can be a sign of burning a little oil or unburned fuel getting into the exhaust but the CO reading points to a combustion or air/fuel metering issue.

As I said, you need to get the problem diagnosed properly by someone who understands emission issues.

Thanks for your reply ,the mechanic i had service my car done something to advance idling revs from 500rpm to 1000 rpm to avoid car cutting out , if it is put on a diagnostic machine will it tell what is the problem
