    http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/bas-first-a380s-to-ply-short-haul-routes-to-train-crews-377714/

BA are going to put their A380s into service on short haul routes initially to get their crews up to speed quicker. It will give them the chance to do 4 sectors a day. No word yet on what route it will be on (the only one mentioned in the article is Madrid as it is Iberia's base) but you never know if 500 of us all book a ticket for the same flight!!

Can DUB's runway and terminal accomodate it? :D

    :(

The runway could accomodate a light A380 going to LHR, but the terminal would be unable, and it is unlikely that they would modifiy it when the runway still cannont take a fully laden plane.

If the demand was there surely they would have used a larger aircraft a long time ago?

This is solely for training runs - not upgauging the route to an A380!

Think one of the stands on T2 can handle. Almost sure it was posted here by someone.

LHR - MAD will be mostly it I'd imagine.

With Iberia using A340s on that route, BA will surely follow suit. Don't BA fly 744s to Moscow?

Its going to be similar to when they received the 777.
Mind you with lower deck seating being utilized only using Dublin wouldn't be a problem.Im sure they have a plan B.

Didn't Air France do the same between CDG and LHR for a few months, it was pretty successful I think. I would be surprised if BA didn't do the same route considering the number of A380's in and out of CDG every day.

Nice route map here of the A380's movements.

IB normally have one A340 flight a day to/from Heathrow. For cargo capacity more then passenger, I believe. BA recently upgraded the Moscow route to a 747 and other long haul product aircraft from a mix of short haul A320's and 767's.

I read about that on airliners.net and apparently there is big demand for business and 1st class tickets on the route (Russian oligarchs?) and the 744 had that capacity.

AF did LHR to Paris for a period with an A380.

Indeed, the premium traffic demand would have played a large part in it.

It would have to, if you look at how BA's 744's are configured.

Looking at Flightradar24, the 744 flight (BA233) from LHR to Moscow yesterday was operated by G-CIVI. I flew on that very aircraft back in August and it has only capacity for 299 passengers configured in 14/70/30/185. So that's only 185 economy passengers, or less than the capacity of some of BA's A321's. Assuming the 744 that operates the flight every other day is configured the same, its not hard to see how a lot of that demand on the Moscow route is for more affluent air travelers than those who usually use economy!
