Hi All ! This may be a stupid question but I am going to ask it anyways :D
I have a Scott S50. It has Sora groupset. (8 speed Sram cassette) I'm thinking of upgrading the cassette to a 9 speed ultrega cassette. Is this possible ?

No, spacing on the cassette is different.

A 9 speed ultegra cassette will fit on your hub. However, you will then need a 9 speed chain and 9 speed shifters. Ideally you would want 9 speed derailleurs and a 9 speed compatible chainset as well.

i'm still running 7 on one bike (have you tried getting 7 speed cassettes) basically until i find a decent cheap set of 8 or 9 shifters (if i dont it will stay at 7)

Thanks for all the replies. I only got the bike in the middle of July and tbh I genuinely thought the sora was 3 x 9 so that's why I was considering the 9 speed ultegra. I have just bought a set of Mavic Ksyrium Equipe wheels so was going to upgrade the cassette while I was at. I'll just pickup an 8 speed cassette for now. If I going spending money on changing most of the groupset I'm pretty sure herself will finally lose the plot :-)

Something to be aware of is that while a 9 speed cassette will probably fit on a wheel that currently has an 8 speed cassette, once mounted on the bike you may find that the smallest cog is too close to the frame to be usable. Basically, older wheels might not be entirely compatible with 9 speed cassettes, due to the design of the hub. Newer wheels should probably be fine.
