How long do customs hold items

So I bought a Harry Potter Halloween costume on eBay for £25, as the seller was located in Hong Kong I expected my package to arrive within 2 weeks. I ordered the package on the 21st of September and it still hasn't arrived. The seller dispatched the item on the 25th and it said it arrived at customs around the 2nd/3rd this is really annoying as I have a charity dress up contest next Wednesday and was hoping to wear my costume then. Does anybody have any idea why my product is delayed? 19 business days have passed since I ordered the costume!

Rule of thumb with ordering anything from that region is expect 3 - 4 weeks as a normal delivery. At times things can be super quick and arrive in 2 weeks but the norm is towards the 4 week mark. The first week of October I think was a public holiday for a few days in China and I think at least 1 day in Hong Kong so noone working. Back log could have occurred.

Also a lot of people will be getting stuff sent and received not just Hong Kong but china, Australia etc as it will take a few weeks and they try to beat the xmas rush. Back logs occur and delays are to be expected.

If you paid via Paypal, wait a few more days for it to arrive and then start a dispute before the windows closes. You have 45 days I think.

19 days in Irish Customs and no communication is unusual .

You need to make that phone call tomorrow .

No what is unusual is an item getting dispatched and arriving in Ireland from Hong Kong 5 business days later. I'd say he was told a porkie about it being in Irish customs. The tracking for stuff over there is horrendous. When it eventually arrives, tracking will prob still have it as waiting for dispatch for example. If I were in his shoes I'd probably wait a few more days until say next Wednesday then start a dispute with paypal. Also source a new costume so if it doesn't arrive you can go buy a new one.

Just a quick update, was looking at the percentage for how look it took customers to receive their purchase. Since I am now at the 20-23 day scale it should definitely be delivered now as 97% of customers had there items received by then. I think I'm going to wait till Wednesday then file a complaint

Best thing to do alright. Sometimes the item never gets sent, just open a dispute and either agree to a new item being sent or push for a refund. It's happened to me a couple of times. For the most part I usually agree to a resend even if it puts me outside my dispute window limit, the re-sends have all arrived tho and I usually only order very low value stuff.

Higher value items, I push for a refund generally.

Just got a reply from the seller saying that they are investigating into the package being lost although I did give them the right shipping address, problem is it is no longer showing that I won the costume on my ebay account. They wrote telling me if it hadn't arrived by Friday they would refund me in all honesty I just want my costume I don't want a refund, I just want my costume :-(

Hi lads, so its 30th of October today and guess what? Still no package, I contacted the seller and they said if it hadn't arrived by the weekend they would refund me. I contacted them today and they shortly replied saying "we still glad to refund you 5% for your waiting ?" Their policy says that if it is over 30 days they will refund immediately it is now 34 days since the package was paid for and sent and they only want to refund 5%. This is annoying me as Halloween is tomorrow and I can't wear the costume and they won't refund me my money, I have to wait until the package arrives. Any advice I checked the tracking today and it says: DUBLIN MAIL CENTRE DUBLIN 12, ITEM SENT TO CUSTOMS, it has said that since early october. Any advice/help?

FYI: The seller is bigwholesale4u and have 99.4% positive feedback, with many people complementing how fast shipping was.

Its up to seller to make sure that the product gets delivered to your door.
    Start paypal dispute asap.
    Another option
    Ring this number (01)7057000
Collect this parcel in person and pay any outstanding fees ;)

Get in touch with customs. If you paid via paypal, you could start a dispute. Don't escalate to a full claim yet. By opening a dispute within the window, it will allow for a full refund should it be decided. If the items are indeed in customs, which the tracking says they are, you will need to get in touch with them.

How much was the order including delivery cost. If it exceeds €22 you will be liable to pay vat of 23% if it is stopped. I don't think there is any other duty on costumes. So for example if the costume cost about €50 you'd prob end up paying about 11 - 12 euro extra in vat to customs. If An-Post pay it and send the parcel to your house, you will need to pay them an additional fee of €6 to them for the pleasure.

If I was in your shoes, I'd ring customs. I reckon it is there and the company has offered you 5% as a way of saying sorry for the delay.

it's up to the seller to prove they sent the item. A tracking number which shows that the parcel is in Dublin customs proves they sent it. A paypal dispute for non arrival/ not sending would go in the favour of the seller. They completed everything on their end. Customs will generally send low value items through so the costume is either a higher value or it was someone in customs having a bad day :D

    The costume was around €30

When/if it arrives, do you think I should give a positive or negative review although delivery has taken forever they did provide good communication and contact

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,692 ✭✭✭Jarren

    Nah

Proof of item sent/POD means absolutely nothing to Paypal unfortunately from sellers point of view ,had a number of buyers in the past filing a chargeback claim.

I always send my products fully insured though and never had a problem getting my money back from courier company.

    Coming back on topic

This also could be an issue with a wrong address on the parcel, last week I collected a parcel from South City Parcels Office, Merrywell (off Ballymount Road) because someone wrote on my parcel

    Full Name
    Dublin 24

    and that was it

I live in Dublin 6 btw :pac:
