Depending on the fault it might be possible to connect to a diagnostics computer and reset it, that might last hours, weeks or months before it pops up again.

No will be instant fail, if it's too near to cancel the test I would stick it through, there may be other issues to fix and the retest for the airbag light should just be a visual inspection.

I think the OP is talking about their driving test rather than the NCT.

OP I am pretty sure you won't be allowed to do your test in the car with the airbag light on.

Most of the time an airbag light fault on a Mk4 Golf is a pretty easy fix so it should be possible to get it sorted beforehand.

My wifes Mk4 Golf had the same issue pre-NCT. It's an easy fix apparently.

Odd thing was it passed with a cracked headlight & a wheel bearing in need of attention.

If you can get hold of a diagnostic reader you could possibly clear it, can be purchased online for less than €30, however it's unlikely to arrive before Wednesday. Best would be a local mechanic who should have access to one and can reset it probably for less than €50, really should be more like €20 as it involves only a couple minutes work. There is the risk that the fault will reappear after a short drive down the road so bear that in mind.

Here's one in Argos for €121.49, handy thing to have as it will work on most cars, could get you out of this hole and you will have it in the future....

So would I be best off waiting till tuesday to get it reset? shortest amount of time for something to go wrong or does it matter?

If you have an android phone you can download torque app and use one of these to connect to the car http://touch.adverts.ie/car-parts-accessories/elm-327-v-1-5-cd-obd-2-bluetooth-new-pc-android-laptop/2183077

    this is a common fault,
if you slide the front seats up and back alot the wiring loom can become chaffed and cut..

vw sell the part to fix their fault.

Ya other people have been driving the car lately sothe seat has had a bit of movement. I'll check and see if I can spot any damage so

If that is the case set the seat in the position that suits you then get the fault cleared and dont move the seat. Its usually the connection in the loom under the seat gets loose and moving the seat knocks on the light.

Someone with vagcom/vcds can also switch off the airbag in the seat so that hitting a bump etc during the test wont bring it back on
