I've attached a general information .pdf file for the MK5 Instrument cluster. My question is which lights are supposed to come on when you first start up the car?

I dont have the manual for the car so cannot find out.

I wonder if someone out there with a mk5 golf can edify me?

    Thanks

Perfectly normal, but they should go out once started bar the handbrake/bulb out warnings.

yeah but not all of the lights are supposed to flicker on during ignition right? only some. I'm trying to find out which ones are supposed to flicker on.

All should light up, some go out leaving handbrake and engine warning light on and the ending warning light goes off when you start it.
