HDMI Problem with Onkyo 609 Receiver

    Hey,

I am having problems with my Onkyo 609 receiver which I bought earlier this year. I was watching my foxsat on HDMI 2 when I turned on my media player. The picture from the foxsat went immediately blue and when I changed to HDMI 1 to watch the media player it was also a blue screen. I checked the HDMI cables and they are grand as the front HDMI port works fine also the HDMI out works it just seems to be the HDMI inputs at the back, it looks like the HDMI board in the back has blown, is this a known problem for the 609?

I unplugged the receiver at the mains and also did a reset but still no joy. I have checked online and it is recommended that you unplug it from the mains and leave it unplugged for 15 minutes, something to do with removing a build up of static. I will try this later but I wont be holding my breath!

So how do I go about returning it? Can you guys arrange a pickup from my house? From what I have read on the National Consumer website you guys "the seller" is liable for any return shipping costs for a faulty product?

    Thanks,

    Branners

    Branners,

apologies for the late response and the general inconvenience - HDMI boards going down are not a common '609' feature - however it does occur occassionally on AVR's from all brands unfortunately.

Onkyo give a decent 2 year warranty as standard and would be one of the better brands when it comes to decent warranty service.

If you can get it back to us in the first instance we will get it back to Onkyo who will check if its faulty and we will courier it back to you free of charge asap.

If you are sending it back to us please do ensure it is packed really well for transportation to the UK preferably in the original box with packaging - whatever you do dont forget to include your full name, address, contact details and a full fault description - if you have a copy of your original receipt that would be helpful - (just drop us a line if you need one with your email addy and we will send you a PDF copy)

Before you do any of that though I'd try a full reset and a firmware upgrade - the full reset you can do this way: .
To reset the AV receiver to its factory defaults, turn
it on and, while holding down VCR/DVR, press
ON/STANDBY. “Clear” will appear on the display
and the AV receiver will enter standby mode.

Apologies again and keep us posted with updates!

    Hi John,

I have done the reset and the firmware just tells me it is up to date when I try to update it.

I will check for my receipt and will include all the details I can. The cheapest I can find in around €18 to Belfast from Dublin. How do I go about getting a refund of the €18??

    Thanks,

    Branners
