So it's been confirmed that Cav is gone to Quickstep, a touch of bad timing to announce it when Sky riders are having to sign up to an anti doping policy..

Bad timing as in people will think he's jumping ship because he can't/won't sign ?

He said himself a good while ago that he's leaving Sky so I don't think people will read too much into it.

For me its great to see a cyclist get fecked out the back whenever the road goes upwards.

Kind of agree with this. His departure has been signalled for months now and Quickstep were heavily reported as the likely destination. Anyone trying to connect the two is really just looking to stir.

I'm not trying to connect, I'm just pointing it's poor timing, nothing else.

I never said you were. I simply meant that anyone who would try to make the connection would be stirring. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

    Group Hug anyone ?

So where to now for OPQS ? Brammeier is gone, Veltis's are rumoured on the way out, will they build a sprint train or will Cav be Boonen's apprentice ?

Boonen stated in an interview during the summer that he would be very happy work for Cav in the train. He knows that be can't win most sprints so would prefer to work for someone who can.
Also said it would be far preferrable to going to the atone on a team fighting for a jersey (green) than going just to make up numbers.

Could Tom help Cav become a classics specialist - who knows. That assumes that Tom knows what makes him tick. I think he is a vet on the bike and go hard type of guy.
Good for Cav. Back with Holm, Specialized and will be the team leader for the tour next year.
Plus the two best sprinters on rival Belgian teams next year. That'll add a bit of spice to the mix.

I think it's a pretty good fit. Quickstep will abandon any GC hopes, with the exception of Martin, who can go well in shorter stage races. They have a heap of big strong hardmen who'll work for Boonen in the classics and Cavendish on the Tour.

On the timing point, he waited until the season had pretty much come to an end - he didn't want to take any gloss off my Track Masters performance last week. Alas it was all a bit superfluous as I was incapable of putting any gloss on it in the first place ...:)

TBH it's been mooted since the end of last season when Quick step were looking to sign him.
I think it's fair to say Cav would have no problems with the anti-doping pledge (unlike a good few in the Sky team!!).

I'd agree it's a very good fit. A train for the GT's and with Boonen for the classics and Martin for the shorter stage races and TT's it's quite an exciting prospect. The back up staff have changed over the past few years too. Feel Bottle was a bit hard done by to be sacked but he did admit to a hell of a lot of doping......
