Alternative to H6W side light bulb

I have a Citroen C4 Grand Piccasso that has H6W (Halfords also call them HBU434). The bulb on one side blew the other day and I priced around

    Halfords are €7.50 each
Micks Garage are €8.50 for 2 but at less than €20 an order will add €5 delivery
Local Motor Factor are €7 each

I got it in the local guy and swapped it out. Worked for 2 days and then it failed again. I swapped the bulb to the other side but the bulb definitely isn't working. The thing is that the filament looks fine and also I used a multi metre and tested connectivity from the base to the side connection and it worked fine. To make sure this tested connectivity I tested the blown bulb and it showed no connection across those terminals.

Looking on ebay for a better deal and see lots of Xenon LED versions (mainly from Hong Kong but UK also) for much less. Are these a suitable replacement? Obviously I would get 2 and swap both bulbs.

What's the resistance of the "good but not working" bulb?
Do you have consistent 12V at the bulb holder?

I'd use LED's no problem if the bulb was awkward to get at or was blowing lot. In my experience the eBay ones tend to be boy racery blue/white rather than a clean white. EDIT -"Xenon" LED nearly guarantees a blue tint. WTF is a Xenon LED, like?

I'll check when I get home. Bulb is very easy to get at.

    Becareful with those bulbs!

I saw one Picasso and the bulb (Presume it's the new shape? ) and holder melted it's way down through the headlight.

The Halogen or the LED ones? Where did you get them?

Might still be more trouble than it's worth, I'm just concerned that there's some sort of short in the bulb somehow rather than burnt out filament. If it's not working where the other bulb is working I'd just write it off and get a supply of spare halogens or try out some LEDs.

Unfortunately I'm not too close to any of their locations.
