Sex attacker pays €15,000, How does this affect a civil case?

    Hypothetically,

    If a convicted person pays €15,000 in lieu of prison, can the victim seek compensation in her own right or is this 'payment' her only compensation.

    In the case above, there seems to be no assets or income worth perusing but in theory, is a civil case out of the question?

    How would it effect the case legally - dunno

    How does it effect it practically - You answer it in your last sentence. No point suing someone with no ability to pay.

    Also most thinly veiled hypothetical in the world :D

    AFAIK, you can always sue. I'd expect the fact that a certain amount had already been ordered (and paid, if that were the case) would be reflected in any award of damages, though.
