Hi guys. Is it possible to replace the eircom router that's 3 years old. With a router of better standard and quality. Wifi keeps dropping and comming back on the eircom one. Runs very slow when u have a number of pc,'site. Now we wouldn't be running a hole lot. Wife be checking emails. The latest deals and so on. I would be playing online games. The odd time. Services is just crap. Tried. Getting a replacement. But eircom looking for silly money. For Something I can pick up for 50 Euro. So pull out the eircom router. Phone line runs straight to it. Now new router means new software updates for the pc on or using the system. So is it possible.......
Thanks for the advice in advance.

Your wireless problems could be caused by any number of different thngs but, in answer to your question : yes you can use any ADSL router. First though, I'd try to just borrow another Eircom ADSL router from someone else to be sure that it's the router that's actually the problem. There are a lot of old Eircom routers lying around in drawers unused so you should be able to get your hands on one. For most people, newer routers won't perform any better than older ones so don't worry about using a 2nd-hand one from say Adverts.ie

If buying a new one then you're probably better off buying online, for example.

    Dump it! :D

If you buy a 3rd part replacement, write down your WAN connection settings (or take a screen shot from the router interface), saves you time when you configure the new router.
