Im aware nobody flies Dublin to Florence direct anymore but what is the chances of that route reopening in 2013? Slim chance at this stage is suppose but have Aerlingus and Ryanair announced all their routes for 2013?

As you say direct air services to Tuscany aren't good. But the architecturally aesthetic Train Station is in the centre and is a very reasonable way to arrive/depart from Firenze, with matching luggage. It means that maybe Milan Malpensa (MXP) , Milan Linate (LIN) and Bologna (BLQ) may still be suitable.

Pisa's Galileo Gallilei (PSA) airport has Ryanair flights celebrating seven years togetherness.
Also, plenty of small operators which may be helpful for other destinations in Europe.

    Couldn't find the crystal ball.

Aer Lingus to Bologna, cheap bus to Bologna train station, 40 minute train to Florence is the way I would suggest.

You know they say there's no such thing as a stupid question - you disproved that.

I then gave you an alternative and you diss that, you're welcome.

I am only saying this once in here:

Keep this thread on-topic with informative and helpful posts, or just don't post!

If it is important to arrive in Florence airport you could fly with CityJet from Dublin via London City Airport or alternatively with Lufthansa via Frankfurt. An Aer Lingus/Alitalia combo could also be done via Amsterdam or Rome. All of these options will however most likely cost more than flying a low cost carrier to a nearby airport.
