In the climate of rising interest rates has anyone thought of asking for a split rate mortgage i.e. partial variable partial fixed.

How do you go about it how does it work in terms of what percentage is fixed/variable ?

Used to be very common, you are possibly availing of best of both worlds, if rates rise you win on the fixed, if they fall you gain on the variable. That's the theory anyway, not always as simple as that as fixed are normally higher than variable anyway so it's a bit of crystal ball gazing.
