    Ok have booked surprised trip for hubby to this for 2013. Accommodation and flights. Do I need to get grandstand tickets or not?

    I don't believe you have to go to the grandstands (they're pratically sold out anyway), as far as I know you can stand on the side of the stages too. Have a read through this guide it might give you a better idea.
