Freeware to find duplicate photos?

I need to sort out my photograph folders on a Mac OsX 10.5.8 Intel machine. I'd like to be able to sort folders by date but also weed out duplicates. Has anyone used any freeware programs that can help me with this task? Any recommendations. I have a few thousand photos (and videos) to sort. Thanks in advance.

Adobe Bridge is good for bulk editing, finding duplicates etc. it comes bundled with Photoshop though.

Perhaps looking for a free alternative to Bridge would be a start...
