It won't be cheap. Last time I put up a sliding door was 15 years ago for the dairy 6x6 sheeted both sides the materials cost me 180 pounds and I made the door myself.

You need 30ft of sliding gear you need to work out the weight of the door and this will then determine the size of the running gear.
At 15 foot wide i would be looking at a roller door as its less likely to get a slap.

It would seem to be on the high side Tom, as the frame could be made from 2"box, the material costs to include paint and screws should be no more than 300 euros, add your labour to this it would seem to be a high price for the door only, if it was to include to wheels and rails and fitting of the door, then it would then be more or less the price,
And already suggested a roller door would be a great alternative, with some examples to suit on donedeal at the minute, the width being important as the door can be shorten with little effort, and would probably work out cheaper....

Biggest problem with the sliding door as mentioned is when it gets a slap from the cows! We have one which is about 10ftx10ft, and to be honest its a pain in the arse! There will always be a time when the cows all come through at once, and dont give you a chance to slide the door fully open. What happened our door now is there are afew groves in the roller slide from cows hitting it, and as a result the door doesn't slide across smoothly anymore. The other issue I have is its a very heavy door so hard to push across anyway!

How well do roller doors withstand abuse from cows, and corrosion etc also? Ie if afew cows made a run for the door when it was only say 5ft up would they make sh%t of it altogether?

Seems a bit steep to me too.

A potential issue with roller door can be head room if you don't have sufficient space at the top. They can cause access problems if you need to get a tractor in through this opening.

Roller doors ok on machinery shed and the likes. No business with one in a cattle shed. Just too finicky once they get a bang.

it is at the end of a feeding passage - south facing ie all the weather comes from this direction. I don't want to block it on a permanent basis as I will need to drive a tractor through it at some stage

    Thanks

Don't think you'll do much better than that, by the time the door is made and galvanised, a 30' header rail is fitted with track and flashing, bottom guides fitted, door is installed and sheeted..........9' seems a bit low, get it higher if possible, will not cost very much more.

Id go for the sliding door my self ive seen a few roller door pop out of there guide track in strong wind conditions, I wouldnt say 1000 euro is excessive, sliding door gear is expensive. Quality track wheels range from 25-50 euro add in channel to support the sliding gear track and then the flashing to cover the track there wouldnt be alot out of it by my estimations.

Just been quoted €1350 for 13' sheeted rolling door installed, with fly-door built-in.
It's from a top-class company that have done most of my shed-work, so I know the spec will be good.
    Seems ok to me.

    To make the door no.

To make and fit the door yes.

I would expect to make the door and have the sliding gear for around 450-500 euro. This is including proper sliding gear. If fitting on a new building then add and extra 250 euro. To fit to and existing building it would depend on what grounds are available for fixing the sliding gear to. Also how much work involved in getting sheeting off and refixed. There is a days work or more in getting the door up so 1000 euro would be a good price. If its only for a wind break as there is not cattle near it there is a company in the midlands do the retractable wind break doors they are on done deal I think.
