    Hey all
Just looking for some advice, I had 3 fillings done a week ago - on the upper left side of my mouth towards the back and all 3 beside each other...I had some pain after the anesthetic wore off, was fine the next day and nice then I've been in a lot of pain, it seems to be the middle tooth that was filled (which was also the largest filling) and it is extremely sensitive to cold drinks etc..no pain on biting and no pain with hot items...I spoke to my dentist today as I am due back this week to have more work done and the dentist advised that a root canal may be needed in the middle tooth, I never had any pain with these teeth ever so am really annoyed to be in pain now...has anyone had a similar experience with fillings?
    Thanks

something similar happened with me,got one tooth refilled,it was grand until the anaethetic wore off, then the pain set in,took some pain killers which helped,it was grand then the next day,but then a constant thumping pain developed that would not ease off, couldnt sleep with it. eventually after a week i went back to the dentist, and was told a route canal or extraction were the two options i had, likewise i had no pain in the tooth up until that

    Sounds like you have pulpitis.
If it is irreversible pulpitis, either root canal treatment or extraction will be the next step.
If it is reversible, the pain may "settle" in time, but the tooth will need to be monitered longterm, as there remains a risk of the root canal treatment/extraction being required in the future at some stage.

The other two teeth treated were probably caught at an earlier stage (ie: decay not as close to the nerve) & therefore simply straightforward fillings.

Pricey enough,€550,worth it though, your as well to keep them while you have them, the only thing is thougfh my dentist recomends that i should get the tooth crowned incase the tooth cracks,he says the strenght of the tooth is compromised now that it was bored out to remove the nerve. Probably will get it done too at some stage,€650 more though,if you look at it one way,if the tooth did crack ,its your 550 gone down the drain, have my one done about a year and a half, the tooth is still sound,no cracks, but it could happen any time, sorry for the long post, just to add,as far as i remember, all in id say the procedure was about two hours,no more stressful/painful than a standard filling

Ouch...I think the price will hurt more than the root canal :-) thanks for the reply
