Pricing contents

    Appreciate any advice.

The person we are buying from has asked what of the contents we want to keep. The estate agent said he is happy to take and store what we don't want, which I'm sure is a standard line meaning "nothing is free".

I had planned on offering based on prices from Ebay and the like - has anyone any experience of this though? We want very little of what is there as most is in bad condition, but some kitchen fixtures (dish washer / washing machine etc) and some of the living room suite would be useful at least initially.

    Thoughts / comments ?

It's quite normal when you're buying a house that the good stuff will be taken and junk will be left. I was left with 2 bed bases which I had to chop up, and also an ancient oven and fridge which actually were perfect for the first year (in fact the old fridge was much better than it's modern replacement!).

If you're concerned about a lot of junk, simply get your solicitor to write into the contract that all furniture, rubbish and appliances should be removed (I've heard of people signing contracts only to find a skip-load of rubbish lurking in the garage or attic). Or simply insist on it being removed before signing the contract.. because once you sign, regardless of verbal agreements, it's your mess.

If you want to keep dishwasher, etc, ask them to throw it in or offer them a few hundred cash. At the end of the day it's immaterial compared to the cost of the house.
