    Just looking for some advice.
My sister-in-law had a car crash about a week ago. Her insurance company is writing off her car .They have not given her a value yet.
It’s a Renault Grand Scenic 07.The damage appeared superficial to her ,it was missing its headlights and bumper. One of the headlights came out intact so she left it with the bumper in the back of the car. After the accident she drove it home (about 5 kl) ,and it drove fine. A couple days later the insurance Co. got it towed from the house to their garage.
She recently spent €1000+ getting a new timing chain, disc brakes ,new tyres and other jobs done.

She wants to know how do the insurance company decide the market value?.

I shared a house with a insurance assesser, he used carzone mainly. Doubt he's typical though.

I wouldn't mind that if they were assessing a car of mine for a write off :pac:

Do you know if he used lowest price or average price?

You should get a good range of prices for similar cars from Donedeal, carzone etc. I would also look at the VRT calculator on revenue.ie and see what value they place on the car, will normally help your care as it will be higher.

If the car has a full main dealer service history that can also be used to differentiate it from other cars the assessor will come back saying it matches the price of.

What speed was the crash and what did she hit? While the car may look OK the crumple zones could be crumpled. Did many airbags go off, they are expensive.

Pulling onto juction from stop position ,so not that fast.
Airbags did'nt go off, either. But maybe it is the crumple zones ,as a few people have said that could be it.I told her to wait for the engineers report from insurance company to see if they mention that.
She is worried as she thinks she will get feck all for the car.Wants to know what to expect, valuation wise.
It's probably worth more to her than the insurance company.
