Timing Belt Megane

    I had this changed at 90K and I'm now at 155K so should I get this down pretty sharpish?

    Also is there any mechanic known out there that can do this job without having to replace the water pump? Seems everyone I speak to wants to change the pump and that adds a lot of cost.

    It's generally seen as best practice to replace the water pump when doing a timing belt. What are they charging you for the water pump? It shouldn't increase the cost significantly.

    If the water pump goes before your next timing belt, you're looking at doing the whole job again. It could be false economy not to do it now.

    If its a 1.4 16v petrol then you should be looking at around the €350 mark for a full timing belt kit with water pump fitted using the required specific tools.

    Everyone is telling you that you need to change the water pump along with the belt for several reasons the main ones being best practice and cost.

    The timing belt has to be removed to change the water pump so doing it at the same time reduces labour costs. Also, a leaking water pump(and they are very prone to leaking on Renaults) is one of the possible reasons for premature timing belt failures.

    Its the 1.4 petrol alright and I will be getting the belt and pump done at the same time based on the reasons and what you mentioned above. I have a price very close to that above so I am happy enough.
