Hiya Kassie, I'd be glad to :)

What you need is a flat bottomed glass dish propped up at the edges so you can put something colourful underneath (the background) and keep a decent distance between the dish and the background. Then light the background well. A tripod is a good idea too.

This Youtube vid explains how to do it.

If I were doing it again, ideally I'd want to get myself a macro lens and I wouldn't agitate the oil so much. As you can see I've managed to cause a lot of small bubbles which I think detracts from it somewhat. Takes some experimenting to get interesting results.

Why not give it a go and show us some shots?

might give that a go myself this weekend, heres something similar i was messing around with a while ago, fizzy water and an apple in a big glass jar, i wish i had a macro to play with :)

I had a go at this once a while back.

I used some very cheap extension tubes from ebay, a glass cooking dish full of water over some colourful wrapping paper and then a few drops of cooking oil.
Really cool effect and from my fickr comments the biggest difficult was dealing with the shallow DOF from the tubes. I reckon they would look great printed huge!

Love the colours and how each shot is completely different. Perfect for wall art.
