    Hi Folks,

Just say I wanted to know who owned a particular property, (where there is no mortgage on the property), is there a public office that I can check this in, without going through a solicitor?

    Thanks for any advice...

    HFC...

If it is 'registered land' (i.e. land registered in the land registry), try the public office of the land registry.
    http://www.landregistry.ie/eng/Contact_Us/Land_Registry_Contact_Details.html

Other than that, you could investigate rated occupier details (not ownership) with the local authority or the valuation office, provided you have an accurate map and pay the required fee.

The property that you are looking at may not have a land registry title. If not, you should consider getting a solicitor to check the position for you.
