Mountain range like shadow on LCD tv screen

Tried google for a similar problem but maybe I'm not describing it correctly. Have started to notice what looks like an after image of a mountain range on my LG lcd tv. It's almost like a water stain across the bottom third of the screen with peaks and troughs hence my mountain range analogy.

The TV is nearly 3 years old so not ancient. The worst thing is, like an itch now that I've noticed it, it is all I can see. It is more noticable now that I'm watching Ireland's match on RTE2 HD on saorview. Best way to describe is with the image below of a heartbeat line, below the line which runs all the way across the screen is ever so slightly darker than the area above.

On a bright image it is much more noticable. On one google return a video on youtube recommended rubbing something frozen across the screen, needless to say I won't be doing that. Won't be getting a new TV anytime soon but has anyone any experience of a similar problem and if possible a DIY fix of sorts.

It sounds to me that your tv might have some screen-burn-in. This often happens if a picture is on screen without any change, for long periods, eg paused, displaying a photo or on a menu. There are programs and videos you can run which may help, by giving your entire TV screen a total workout by flashing colours. I've never used one but there are lots of them online.
According to this website if you display a perfectly white image with the brightness turned up, and leave it for a while, this can help.

    Found this on youtube

Exact same mark as on our tv, running strobe light videos via youtube on my ps3 doesn't seem to have lessened the mark. So any ideas folks.
