not to sound like a grumpy old guy but I seriously don't understand why ask a passenger plane to go off-course when ausies have quite an air-force resource.
there's so many risks at low altitude... the odds of bird-strike... uhh...

Wasn't just Canadair either, an Air New Zealand flght was also asked to help.

Interesting story, reminds me of the time the Air New Zealand DC-10 rescued a Cessna that was lost over the Pacific.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

    In contrast
reminds me of the story a few months back off Panama where passengers
on A cruise liner spotted a life raft.
The sighting was passed up the chain of command but nothing was done.
two of the guys in life raft died later on.
The cruise line operator Carnival Corporation has launched an internal investigation after passengers claimed one of its ships ignored pleas to rescue three fishermen they spotted adrift in the Pacific ocean.

Still under investigation what exactly happened
