I hope it is acceptable to post in this forum about this request. I feel the regular posters here may very well be able to help me out. Perhaps the motorcycle forum may be a useful resource, however I will refrain from dual-posting.

I'm trying to piece together some history on the Dublin University Motorcycle & Light Car Club and was wondering if anyone could be of assistance. It is a Motor Club associated with Trinity College Dublin and, as far as I can uncover, appeared to have been very active and lively club with great alumni involvement. The last remaining record I can find is of a motorcycle trial they "hosted" in 2001. From what I can tell, they were in their prime in the 50's through the 80's and would love to uncover more information to add to my existing knowledge of them.

I'm a student in Trinity myself and would love to know some more about the club and hopefully get in contact with some old members. If anyone has any information it would be much appreciated.

I know there was 2 books published by a Maurice Bryan entitled "The first 50 years of the Dublin University Motorcycle & Light Car Club" and also it's sequel which covered the next ten years. I have tried for the last few weeks and have failed to purchase a copy. If anyone has one they would be willing to sell/borrow I would be very grateful. Alternatively, providing contact details for Mr. Bryan would be of great assistance. I seem to have sourced outdated phone numbers.

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Feel free to post responses here, or PM me for an email/phone number etc.

Apologies if this is an incorrect forum, I just figured the regular posters here may be able to help me out.

    Many thanks,

    John

Hi John. I was a member 1986-90. Ill search my files but i definitely have a copy of at least one of those books. I know that Maurice lived in Rathfarnham, but am unsure of his present situation. The DU had a notice board on the left as one entered Front Arch. You could also try Brendan Mc Coy of the Jag Club. He was very involved at that time too. Joe

Thanks very much to you both.

Joe, you are correct, the noticeboard is still there, however it's looking very empty!! I was hoping to contact the Jag Club very soon as I noticed in a lot of historic records, both clubs seem to pop up together. I found this interesting link the other day: http://www.cube.irishjagclub.ie/photos1953.html I will try to contact Brenden Mc Coy as any other past members are a great source of information.

I would love to get my hands on these films! Off to the DU Film Society I go next! :)

If you happen to come across a copy of those books, I'd love to hear about what's inside.

I was in that too for a bit. The club was revived for a few years around 1998 to 2001 ish. It was all motorcycles that time. We were quite active during those few years, with regular runs, interesting talks and events, but then somehow, all interest seemed to wane again. The last I heard was that the parent club was wound up (not in TCD), and this included the DUMLCC with it.

The notice board was cleaned a few years ago and its photos removed, not sure who did it. I have a few colleagues who may know more, but I wont get a chance to ask for a few days. One posts here actually!

Club revived, and active! As always with clubs, their future is only as good as the new and younger members coming through. We had a large portion of the members leave College last year, however they will still be around from time to time. Message me your email or number and we can take it from there.
