When visiting Rome you'll find the Forum & Colosseum are a combined ticket (11 euros as of posting) To save yourself time queuing take in the Forum first then the Colosseum, when you get to the Colosseum you'll see a queue a mile long to get in, however head straight to the top of the queue where you'll find a separate entrance for visitors who've just left the Forum. The will save you around an hour.
