With this budget, it's hard to beat PC Specialist. The Optimus IV in the following configuration costs £798 / €985

If you don't care much for graphics power, then the Genesis IV will do, for the same price you'll get this, for example:

Of course, you can configure them pretty much to your likings.

All their computers come with an OS installation DVD and are covered by a 3 yr warranty.

Are you actually editing video or just reencoding it into other formats? Because if it is the latter and you also won't be gaming then something with integrated Intel HD graphics would be just fine.

If that was the case I'd start with the 15.6" Genesis IV from PC specialist as the base instead of the optimus and configure it as Torquay has above but with a second 750GB/1TB HDD instead of the NVidia 660M GPU.

EDIT: Sorry total reading fail, I only saw the top suggestion. He has already done this :)

The GTX 660M is the default GPU for the Optimus IV and cannot be changed.

But as I said, graphics power doesn't seem to be essential, so the Genesis IV would do. Get a full HD display (for video editing), a Core i7 quad, at least 8 GB RAM and a solid state disk. If storage is an issue, a HDD can be added (2nd HDD bay). Something like this maybe (£720)
