Full Swing Change

Having been a comfortable 12 handicapper for a few years and being off work and playing golf every day, I finally managed to put two good rounds together in Charleville.

I got cut 0.4 for a net 70 in Mitchelstown Junior Scratch Cup, 2.2 for a three over round in Charleville the following week and 1.0 for a four over at the same course three weeks later.

Handicap went from 12.4 to 9.0. Still waiting for a further 1.0 shot cut due to the Exceptional Score Rule. This should have appeared automatically after the four over round but might be delayed due to the scores being "away" results.

Here's the thing. My swing and ball striking had been getting deteriorating for months but I had been getting away with it with some good short game. I hit a really bad slice on the 18th in Charleville in my last round there and havent hit a ball well since. That was two weeks ago.
Anyway, on the verge of putting the clubs on Donedeal, I decided to go back to Charleville and spend my prizemoney on the golf acamady.

First lesson last Saturday. To quote David Feherty when he was asked what he thought of Jim Furyk's swing, " It's like an octopus falling out of a tree", And thats where I'm at. So a full swing rebuild is the only answer. Here are the faults. Clubface open, stance two wide, weight on left side at address, weight on right side at finish,no weight transfer, take away was shocking, too wide, too far away from my body and too flat.

Did the first lesson, concentrated on the "take away". Huge difference already. Feels very awkward and stiff but getting a great strike, ball then turf, ball goes straight with the proper high ball flight and much further than before. I just have to perfect the alignment and transfering my weight through the ball.
Will give updates as the swing change progresses.

Are you in a position to take videos? Would be interesting to see if we can spot much of a change at the end of it all.
    Best of luck!

You'd recommend the golf academy in Charleville so ??

How many lessons did you sign up for ? How much ?

Without a doubt, I would reccommend it. Jamie definitely knows his stuff and has state of the art equipment. €40 per lesson but well worth it. No matter how many lessons you do, there is nothing like making a swing and then looking at it on screen. ffrightening but at least you get a visual of what you need to correct. I didnt sign up for a set number of lessons. I will be going there until I am fixed. I would imagine that will take four to five lessons for a total swing change. Not bad considering the timing. I have all winter to get it right.
