Sounds like its going to be a Freak of the Week format akin to Season 3. Disappointing but I'll still tune in nonetheless

Starting tonight (in 10 minutes!) on E4.
Repeated on E4+1 at 11pm, and it's on a good few times during the week too.

So apart from Curtis, none of the originals that helped make this series.
Pretty much being carried now by Joe Gielgun.
The new 2 are not much of an addition so far.
Used to be dark and humourous.
    Gone is the humour.
    Left is the dank.:(

I like the two newbies. There's supposed to be another 2 new kids as well, although I dunno when they'll appear. I had thought Seth was meant to be staying as a series regular, but he clearly said he was going back to Africa with Kelly, so I'm guessing that's the last we'll see of him... :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,195 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yeah, the show is being carried by Joseph Gilgun... but to be fair, he's well capable.

Howard Overman and the rest of the team should be glad they have him.

Newbies didn't make much of an impression yet but did laugh at the uncle rape bit.

It's not near the travesty of Skins in it's later seasons.

I think Jess could be a good addition - she seems a good candidate for the group's normal member without being an enormous bitch like Alysha was (at least to begin with) or a caricature of a chav (like Kelly). Which is good, because Rudy needs someone normal around to bounce off, and the rest of them appear to be oblivious to his antics at this point.

I still think the show's been spinning its wheels since the last episode of the second series (Milkboy), and this season opener actually felt like a generic/template episode in a bad way (Rudy/Nathan being over-the-top and gross? Check. Randomer with power that drives the episode but then disappears, Never To Be Mentioned Again? Check. Dead person to be buried under the overpass? Check. Fourth-wall-breaking joke near the end? Check...).

I hope they raise the bar - it's still fun when it hits its groove, but for me at least it's losing its shine...

What I liked about Misfits is that it never really relied on gore - sure a lot of people died, but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as showing that guy's hand being chopped off. I'm not sure I have high hopes for this season, with Curtis being the only original cast member left. I'll watch, but the most recent season was somewhat disappointing.

Watched this last night and was disappointed, was expecting this to follow Barrys story as hoodie guy rather than do a Skins and change the cast around

Better this week but still way off first 2 seasons. Last weeks was a complete waste. Again Joe with the only memorable lines.
A new take on rock paper scissors, an old take on cling film and the most
    unlikely rudy interuptus

Says more that interest in the series has really waned.

For those wondering, the girlfriend is played by Imogen Doel, she's from Dublin but living in London, she's with the Royal Shakespeare company and this was her first TV performance.

    This too shall pass.

I don't know what the hell happened to Misfits. They both signed actors to very poor contracts and set-up an over-arching storyline that fizzled into nothingness last season. It just feels like a show that has no reason to exist. Every season just offers up more churn and progressively poorer writing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,188 ✭✭✭wil

It did a Dougal "I didn't know what I was getting into, Ted. I didn't know you had to follow up a good idea with loads more good ideas. "

This has really faded to grey. Cant see another series happening
    Anyway
last of the originals Curtis exited
so seems to be winding down. meh

I thought the last two episodes were of a high quality tbh, promising stuff for this season. Rudy's pyhscho last episode was just brilliant, and the Curtis\Lola story was a well acting compelling story. I'm just gutted they got rid of Curtis at the end. I liked his character and the actor. He is the required straight guys to Rudy's funny character. Not sure why they killed him off.

The preview for next weeks episode looks really 'meh' though

Just about to watch the most recent episode, but I thought last weeks was a bit stupid. They introduce a whole new doppelganger that has never been mentioned before and then kill him off at the end of the episode. It's becoming more a "baddie-of-the-week" show than anything else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,975 ✭✭✭nkay1985

Have watched the four episodes over the last few days. It's pretty poor really, isn't it? Jess and your man are alright but they're nothing special. I think the new probation worker is an awful character. If it weren't for Joe Gilgun, I don't think I'd be watching anymore.

I'll probably see it out to the end of the season, which will surely be the last, just for the sake of having something to watch. Such a pity as it really was great for a while.

It's weird how they've written off the entire original cast now and replaced them with characters who aren't actually that strong and definitely don't hold a torch to the likes of Kelly, Nathan, Simon and Alisha (with Curtis always being the weakest one).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

I must be in the minority - I thought Season 3 was incredibly weak, with the exception of Rudy, so Season 4 is a breath of fresh air for me. I think Finn and Jess are fantastic additions and work well with Rudy.

I really liked last nights episode. I wasn't a fan of Curtis, but last night I really felt for him. It was acted brilliantly in fairness.

Curious to see where they'll go from here/if they'll introduce somebody new.

Bring back Simon, I say. :)

I don't think they can? I mean, they already completed his story-arc by having him go back in time to repeat the whole thing. To me, it would seem like a cop-out if they brought him back now.

They really shouldn't have gotten rid of him in the first place but I completely agree.

If they didn't get rid of him, then the whole Super-Hoodie thing from Season 2 would have been completely pointless.

What is with these English shows and getting rid of fall their main characters?

I am dissapoint. Brink back Nathan!

I watched the first four last night and was pleasantly surprised. Miles better than season three and giving Gilgun the run of the show was the best decision they could have made.

It's a bit hard when it's the actors themselves who are leaving.

They seem to have a thing for Irish girl guest stars, in the past we've had Charlene McKenna, we've had that girl who played Finn's girlfriend a few episodes back Imogen Doel, and now Siobhan from Love/Hate (Charlie Murphy) shows up as Finn's half sister.

    This too shall pass.

Ruth Negga was in it as well.

I thought this was another very strong episode. Very little Rudy but the new kids are bringing their own thing to the series. Bizarre ending too.

Yea, weird out ending, not sure what they're building too there.

I agree, it was a strong episode. I wasnt expecting a good episode since it moved around the two new characters, but I enjoyed it. Too little Rudy tho, I loved the awkward walking away from the parole officer he done in the changing room, Im going to try that today in the office :D

Next weeks episdoe looks to be really bizarre, cant wait.

Loved this week episode of the season so far for me.

    Love the probation officer

Probation officer singing Power of Love was the greatest thing since Giles singing Behind Blue Eyes on Buffy the Vampire Slayer...

and now we have a new member to the Scooby gang, wonder what her power is?
only being able to stay sober when drunk?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,975 ✭✭✭nkay1985

So is everyone else also singing 'The Power of Love' in their head all morning? :D

Good episode in fairness. Like the new girl, Abbey.

Argh... how is next the last episode of the season all ready. UK and Irish tv sucks for having short seasons. They spent nearly all of this season setting up the new characters

I thought the opposite last year but now I'm glad if this is true.

Could anyone let me know if season 4 is worth watching. Only saw the first episode and thought it was very disappointing. Would love to know whether or not it picked up.

I think so. Refreshing the cast worked in its favour and I thought it better than the third season, even if there's little in the way of a story arc.

Initially wasn't impressed with the first two episodes and considered giving up on it. Definitely picks up though if you stick with it!

Agree that new cast adds to this season and happy to see it gradually moving away from the assigned character "roles" (the one-liners character, serious character, outcast-style role etc.). Interested to see how they develop this new gang in the future.

They pretty much abandoned the whole super-power angle in this series (and the characters themselves remarked on it in a later episode) and I thought it worked well. The stupid barman and his issue aside it was very decent.
