is there any guide or limit to what a social welfare inspector can ask you to produce? I fail to see how my car insurance or nct is in any way relevant to my jobseekers claim because I really doubt she's gonna start paying my diesel

    1. If you have a car, you can be sent for training or work to locations where there is no public transport.
    2. If you have been on SW for the past decade, and are driving a new car costing 30,000, please explain how you could afford to purchase it.

Apparently, as part of the new social contract jobseekers are going to have to declare whether they own a vehicle. I'd ask the inspector for the operational guidelines and/or legislation that states that your NCT and insurance details are part of the accompanying documentation that must accompany a claim for jobseekers.

One also has to wonder whether there's an alterior motive in asking people if they own a vehicle given the fact that officials in the DSP already have access to the vehicle registration database.

I read today in the indo that its to do mostly with ppl living in rural areas claiming the can't attend interviews due to lack if transport so this is one way of seeing who is telling the truth and who isnt....that's their story and that's what their sticking too from what I gather

Checking peoples insurance and NCT also lets them check the address that a person is using. This happens especially for One Parent Family Payment. If for instance the mother has a man as a named driver on her car insurance then that could be taken as an indication that they are living together.

Well that's the new look of things to come. Just read this, I've no problem telling tham I have a car, otherwise how would I get to the appointments ;) anyway it's 13 years old, anyone with a brand new one might have some questions to answer though.

Yes, there is a move towards asking people who are receiving long term social welfare means tested payments if they can explain how they could afford the expensive car, TV...

Another reason why the NCT cert is wanted is that it gives mileage details. When a person gets their next NCT done, they can compare mileage and see how many miles they travel. If they are genuinely unemployed, the mileage is likely to be low. If they have a job and a long commute, the mileage will show that they are travelling a lot every week.

Data profiling is now easy, because most of the work can be done by the computer.
