    Hi All,

Looking to get some opinions on female jockeys.

From a physical point of view what advantages do they have and what are their disadvantages? Strength/weight etc

Looking at the success stories such as Nina Carberry, does this encourage young girls to become jockeys?

    Thanks!

An advantage they have is they often tend to be a bit lighter so can do weights that some of the male jockeys can't. In terms of strength they do tend to fall down a bit there.

Hayley Turner is the first and only female jockey I have seen riding on the flat who can match the men in strength and in being able to really drive a horse in a finish.

She's an excellent jockey but in general it does seem to be harder for girls to make it as very few have. Hayley is probably the first one to genuinely make it to the top level in Britain. Cathy Gannon and Kirsty Milczarek are doing ok aswell but nowhere near the top level, whereas Hayley is now getting rides in some of the top races.

Hayley Turner and lucy alexander are my favourite female jockeys
both are actually my favourite jockeys of all time
    lucy alexander us unreal though
cant remember the name of the horse now but it began with a P
    she was on it
    was a 2m4f race
    4/1 , put 20 quid on it
the horse hits the first few fences then is ridin badly
come to the last 2 fences shes about 16 lengths behind
but she still continues to give the horse all its got
horse ends up speeding up , reacting ina good way
and ends up bolting home past the fav by about half a length
    best race ive ever seen
il try get the video of it

I used to think it was Fanny Norton and a female jockey,

but the above mentioned are very good jockeys, in a male dominated sport they have made it,

I do think the longer trips on the flat might be more of a challenge for them, but that is more of man being stronger thing (in my head).
