Scandal-hit Brady to go as new cardinal lined up

THE VATICAN is set to make Cardinal Sean Brady pay the price of the recent scandals surrounding him by announcing his successor within two months.
The Vatican and the Papal Nuncio, Dr Charles Brown, are advancing plans to replace Dr Brady as Primate of All Ireland.
It's all part of an effort to finally put two decades of scandal behind the church here.
Senior Vatican sources said his successor -- most likely to be a bishop from abroad -- will be named before Christmas.

So, I think the independent first tells us that the Bishop is coming from Abroad, then later tells us that it will be Bishop Traynor. Major contradiction in the article there.

I think also that the independent has no qoutes or facts that the vatican is removing His Eminence Brady because of the scandal. I think that this is just possibly His Eminence retiring and people like the independent deciding to create theories and assumptions as to why he is retiring, making it look like he is being removed. If he were to be removed they would have done it already and not allow him to retire at all.

Give us the facts and qoutes from the Vatican Mr. independent.ie. This is smoky journalism, a little fact, a little of what I think, and a little razzle dazzle to spice it up a little.

While I must agree that there might be much speculation in the article, you really should read it fully, before making comments on it.

Nowhere does the article say that the next bishop will be from abroad, nor does it say it will be bishop Traynor.

What it does say is, that they are looking into foreign based Irish clergy and that it might be a strong possibility (based on how Dublin was handled and how well it went, I would say that would be a good idea).
Bishop Traynor is only mentioned as being seen by the Irish based clergy as the natural successor to Sean Brady.
    So no contradiction there.

I read the article in the Irish Indo and I for one after seeing the documentary on Panorama am glad that Sean Brady has to go - I am only sorry that he is "retiring" and not resigning. I know Sean Brady said he was acting in his capacity as a canon lawyer but anyone with only even the smallest shred of human decency would have endeavoured to protect not only the victims but work to ensure that this sort of abuse would not happen again. He put his career first and the safety of children last.

I think what the Indo was doing was printing the gossip that's doing the rounds within Church circles at the moment. There are plenty of vacancies to be filled and plenty of speculation on who is going to fill those vacancies. It's a game of chess for the Vatican - who would be best and in what Diocese. But until the announcement is made, there's really no point in playing the guessing game. I've known appointments to be changed on the morning of the announcement.

If it is true it is good to see the church stepping up and reacting quickly in this matter... Oh, wait...
