I was working for company A and got a job with company B, then while working with B for only 2 weeks I got a different job that suited me better so I went to company C.
Company A were slow to send out my P45 so I had started with company C before I got it. I didnt give it to company B because I had already left.
Should company B issue me with a P45 after leaving even though I didnt give them one ?
Company B have said they sent one out to me but I never received it and thry refuse to send a copy.
I dont know where I stand now and dont really want to send the P45 from company A to them coz I dont trust them.
Will I just bring the P45 I have to the tax office and let them sort it out ?

    Hi

Company B should have sent out a P45 but as you were only with them for 2 week they would have been operating emergency tax. There is no practical way of knowing what they have actually done until they file the P35 at the end of the year.

Simplest thing is to ring the tax office and ask them to issue a tax credit cert for you in the name of your current employer C. Ask to be put on a week one/month one basis until the end of the year. Then in February when all of the P35s have gone in ask for a balancing statement. Sign up for PAYE Anytime first to see if a refund or payment is due or not.

Alternatively, give the P45 that you got from your previous employer A to C and ask that you be put on week one/month one basis until the end of the year.

It needs to be week one/month one because otherwise you will be given the benefit of tax credits and bands that you may have actually already used when you were employed by employer B.

    Hope this helps
