    Get a Freeview HD box

Unless you mean Freesat and Saorview?

Will the freeview boxes receive the irish channels with the aerial or does the box needs to be saorview + freesat to get both?

Looking to get a box that can do Saorview (with HD output and ability to receive HD channels) and also freeview channels, along with 7 day epg, USB playback/recording.

There's a few of them on the powercity site: http://www.powercity.ie/?tagbrand=All+Brands&pages=1&par=10-23&action=brandstory&cat=10-23
but which would be the best? The TSC114?

Is the NM8010M4 of any use?

All Saorview receivers have HD output.

If you live within range of a UK Freeview transmitter in N Ireland and with the correct aerial pointing at that transmitter a FreeviewHD receiver would be a better option.

If you don't live with range of a UK transmitter a combi Saorview/satellite receiver like the TSC114 above connected to a dish and aerial would be a better option.

    Where do you live approx?
Do you have an aerial for the Saorview channels?
Do you have an aerial for the UK channels?
Do you have a satellite dish?
Do you currently receive the Irish channels with an aerial?
Do you currently receive the UK channels with an aerial?

    I'm in Dublin 7.
No aerial yet, I do have an old (but working) sky antenna/lnb which should be enough for the freeview channels I believe (I was told I can add a second lnb to this to get the Irish channels instead of an aerial, is it true?)
I get those 15-16 channels through upc cable (I don't have tv package with them just internet/phone).
I think I need an aerial for the Irish channels and a box but not sure which to go for.

Just to be clear: Freeview is Digital Terrestrial Television through an aerial. Unless you have a forty-foot high aerial tower in your back garden pointing northwards, you will not be using Freeview.

Freesat is satellite Free to air television. If you have a satellite dish that is/was used for Sky, then you can receive it. In fact, if you have an unused Sky box you will be able to receive the UK free to air channels through it.

Saorview (not Soarview or Sourview or whatever) is the Irish Digital Terrestrial service.

Saorsat is the Free to air satellite service which RTE has done as a figleaf to keep its sweetheart deal with Sky. It is a fiddle to get - as well as a second LNB, you would need a motorised dish to get it. Not that I would miss them, but there is no TV3 or 3e on it.

Best bet for you would be a combined Saorview/Freesat box, which are available. One EPG, no messing once installed. Result! :)

Just to add, there are no combi Saorview/Freesat boxes as the satellite part of the combi box isn't Freesat certified and doesn't have a 7 day TV guide, just now and next info for the satellite channels. They are basically Saorview/free-to-air satellite receivers.

    @SD_DRACULA
You won't lose the analogue channels next week, the analogue switchoff is only happening to the signal coming in thru the aerial.

The Walker WP645TS-HD and Triax TSC114 combi receivers are Saorview certified. You will require an aerial for the Irish channels, you could connect a cheap indoor aerial to the receiver and test it out. If the signal isn't good enough for good reception without breakup an attic or outside aerial will be required.

As said above the Saorsat is really only secondary option for those who won't be able to receive Saorview thru an aerial.

    Cheers for the replies.
So Saorsat won't work with the sky antenna since it needs a solid dish not mesh.
The indoor reception isn't great iirc so wouldn't mind installing something like this but can that be mounted anywhere or does it need to point in a specific direction like the sky dish?
I forgot there also another 80cm or 1m solid dish on the back wall of the house for a satellite receiver which is in use, I suppose I could add another lnb to that to get saorsat instead of the aerial?
Is this box good? http://www.satworld.ie/product-info.php?Ferguson_Ariva_150_Combo-pid547.html or might as well go for the higher model http://www.satworld.ie/product-info.php?Ferguson_Ariva_250_Combo-pid548.html ?
