Anyone know how I can get the parent names?

So, I've used Rootsireland to do a search for these people and I'm now stuck.
William Milner married Jane Rice on 01/08/1834 in Clonbullogue King's County.
On Rootsireland it just gives the fathers names as Milner and Rice. There is literally no other information.
I'd like to know where this Rice lady came from? Would she have been local to Clonbullogue for the wedding to have taken place there? As the surname doesn't appear common in that neck of the woods.
Do you think the actual cert in the National Archives would have the full parents names???
    Thanks

    Hi Galwaygirlee,

You seem to be a bit mixed up.

Given the early date, I presume this is a church record. Early records can be sparse in information.

If it is a church record, then you might expect to find mothers' names recorded in the parish register, especially if RC.

The National Archives does not have marriage records (except for a small number of CoI parishes). The General Register Office provides civil records for births, deaths and marriages. However, there are no civil marriage records before 1845 (1864 for RC).

It is more common for a marriage to take place in the bride's parish in the 19th century but this was by no means 100% of the time.

For a date as early as 1834, I would say "hope" rather than "expect". Many marriage records of that time gave only the names of the couple marrying and the witnesses.

If baptism records from about 20 years earlier survive, it might be worth looking at them, but it might be difficult to link one Jane Rice with another.

Thanks guys. The trail might have ended at these people so. Thanks for all the advice. I'll try look at the parish records anyway in the hope that something might show up. Their birth records don't exist from what I can see. I have Offaly heritage on the case for me now so we will see what comes up.

Records for Clonbulloge RC parish go back a little earlier than most - 1819 for Baptisms, 1808 for marriages.

Yeah I saw that Shane-thanks. But I can't find these people any earlier than their marriage. Something just occurred to me though...the Milner side converted from Quakers at some point do maybe this man was not born RC. Must look into that...

I think the Milner family still live in Offaly. They may have some information.

With regard to the Rice family, the marriage was usually held in the parish the bride lived in, but not always.

If there was a priest in either family, he usually celebrated the wedding. Check to see if the priest who married the couple was the local priest. If not, he may be an uncle or cousin to the bride, so see if you can identify his family.

    Great tips, thanks so much!

the point being, if either William or Jane had an RC baptism in this parish then it's unlikely there would be a record of this - unless they married very young (15).
