Mound or Rip? Best time to plant ash?

the ground is good agricultural ground and free draining. When might be a good time to plant?

Also, I have 2 conflicting "expert" opinions regarding whether to mound or rip.
I am told its better to rip to have a stronger butt which is whats needed for hurley manufacture. At the other end, that mounding is better as 95% of planting is mounded and its a sure a proven way to get results.

Any opinions or experience greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot,

    E

hi im a forestry contractor and i think mounding is a lot better. The mounds give the trees a platform free from vegetation to get established. you will still get a percentage of hurley butts even on rips you are not guaranteed a high percentage of hurley butts.. The mounding may be more expensive at the start but you will save money over the first couple of years on maintenance.....

dont know is that much help to you..
