We recently got our wedding photos and want to make our own album. Ideally we want the traditional type over the photo book. What is the best way to do this? Is there websites that do it or can you do it through Aperture or anything? Or would we be better buying an album somewhere (where is good for this) and doing it that way? Any pointers appreciated.

    I used loxley colour.
I would highly recommend them if you want a good quality finish. Quite expensive though. I wanted to lay out the album myself which was why I chose them.

    Hi

As an amateur photographer for many years I get asked to take the photos at family/friends weddings, I recently used Aperture to create an album for such a wedding.

In Aperture there are standard pages, 1, 2, 3 .... photos per page or you can create your own custom pages (the number of photos, angle of photo, border, use a photo as a watermark (background) etc) which you can then save and use many times to save you time. You will see how to do this in the YouTube videos.

In the past I have also created books using iPhoto but I have found it's not as versatile as Aperture which is why I would recommend you use Aperture.

If you are using Aperture you can also edit and create a lot of effects in Aperture, there are many pre set effects also which can be applied with one click. You can change your colour photos into Mono (Black and White), Sepia tone (vintage look). If you click on the preset you get a preview of how the photo would look using that preset. Once you get into editing it gets a bit addictive !!!

Once you place a photo on any page by double clicking on the photo you can zoom in and crop the photo to your liking. Using your own custom pages you can overlap photos if you wish, I did this a few times to 'hide' a distracting part of a photo.

When you're finished with the book just buy it from inside Aperture a simple click on the "Buy Book" button and Apple will send you on the finished book, usually it takes about a week. I have got several done and those who I got them done for were extremely happy with the books.

There is also an option to save the photo book as a .pdf file and get any printer to print it for you. I have never used that option in case I had any trouble with the sequence of pages.

I found this "How To" videos in YouTube to be very helpful as I was a bit hesitant when starting off. He does a series of lessons to show how to create a photo book, how to create custom pages, edit photos etc. There are many other videos on YouTube.

There are many different "themes" from which to chose. Apple also supply a dust jacket with the cover photos on them which is a nice touch.

There are different sizes and soft/hard cover options. They have tutorials on the Apple website too which shows you the other various options available.

Best of luck with your book, try it out, you have nothing to lose.

Photocare in Abbey St, have Pro Photobooks, in store.
Go to their website www.photocare.ie. Click on Photobooks and download their software to do the layout.

How did your Albums turn out?
I think if your paying nearly 2K for a photographer that the pictures should be all of top quality and edited ready to go into an album. I know a good bit about photography and have carefully chosen my photographer. I am hoping to cut costs by doing the album after myself but I dud t realise they are €300 a book to buy.
