Ok I have a decision to make between the two following cars:

    Insignia SE 2.0 CDTi (160PS) Ecoflex S/S 5DR Estate

VW Passat 1.6 TDi 105 bhp Estate Comfortline Bluemotion

Leaning towards the Insignia, any thoughts or experiences?

    (its a company motor btw)

Insignia all the way if someone else is paying for it.

    +1, thats not a choice ;)

I have had the 2ltr Insignia estate on rent for 5 weeks, I am quite fond of the car. The engine usable range is quite limited but once your used to it its handy enough.

If your'e doing big miles and the estate is loaded then the Insignia with the bigger engine is the better choice.

But the Passat in Comfortline spec is a very nice place to be, well equipped, feels a bit premium, is a superb cruiser and the 1.6 has quite a bit of go when asked. I suspect the boot is also a good deal bigger in the Passat.

I'd certainly look and drive both before deciding, it's as black and white as it may appear.

I like the Passat but not 105bhp, so it'd be the Insgnia from those two for me too.

The Insignia in SE is better equipped than a Comfortline Passat. Downside of the Insignia in estate form is that the boot hatch's silly design actually eats into the boot capacity. Load capacity is not as good as it appears from the outside. Something to keep note of if you plan on using the loading space.

Is the Skoda Superb estate an option?

    .

    It's 105bhp. No it doesn't.

Opels are generally nice to drive. Insignia is a lovely car the 160 I'd imagine would have plenty of power too.

I'm not quite sure who you work for (have a vague idea), but I do know who priced up your company ;)

Insignia SE 160 is a far nicer car than the Passat. Passat only wins if you need to carry big bulky equipment that won't physically fit in the (remote auto opening) Insignia boot.

I had a similar choice a few months back....I was going to take the Insignia until I did a test drive in both. I felt the Insignia was nice and roomy but I was put off by the standard wheels and the noise of the engine in particular...it sounded very loud, almost similar to the diesel Primera I had back in 2002. After driving the Passat I felt it was a far nicer place to be than the Insignia. It seemed quieter and more refined. The one thing that did put me off was the power of the engine, but I am used to this now...it is 'sufficient' at best.

My advice is to drive both and make your own mind up.
