Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, I've recently returned to Ireland after 11 years in the UK and don't know where to take my dog for a walk. She needs time of the lead to run but can't be around livestock.
I'm staying in Navan at the moment and ideally I would prefer not to have to drive to take her for a wander as I save that for special days out. Notwithstanding the fuel costs.
    Thanks in advance.

I hate to say it but you are very limited... the ramparts walk is the only place really to walk the dog off the lead. Dalgen park have banned dogs for ages now and its a shame as responsible dog owners (owners who pick up after their dogs) are limited in Navan.

Where are the ramparts? thats a real shame that its limited. Where I lived in Cheshire was a small village surrounded by farm land but you could walk there no problem as long as you were responsible.i.e, dogs off the lead but obviously if there were livestock you would put the lead on and not trample any corn etc they were growing.
Was hoping to avoid having to put her in the car to give her a good run out.

if you can make to Trim I know of a great spot, 100% no road nearby, nowhere to escape for the dog. it's a fantastic spot, hope nothing is ever built there .

I let my dogs off the lead twice a day there.

That would be fabulous thanks. I'm going back to England to collect her at the end of the month (shes with the ex not kennels) and wanted to start scouting out some nice walks in the area. Don't like walking with the unexpected like cows etc. :)

Are you in the area as well? Just wondering what kind of dogs you both have? :)

Hey I'm sure we could sort out a dog walking meet sometime? My dog is still in Cheshire but will be collecting her so should be around for walkies early November. I've got a very enthusiastic lurcher. :)

Please tell me it's not the Porchfields. I'm sick of dogs without leads running around there.

Why would you have a problem with dogs running off the lead?

Because if they are off the lead, and in a public place, they are often not under control of the owner and can be a nuisance, especially to young kids.

In any case, in the Porchfields, as in other open public spaces, they should be on a lead.

I don't have an issue when considerate owners take well trained dogs to areas not close to paths where there are a lot of people walking/running, but dogs that are clearly not well trained being allowed to run up and down paths close to people and kids who are not comfortable with them is unacceptable.

Back with the dog now and have been walking her up at the IDA centre. Would be nice to meet up with others to get her socialised locally again. Enthusiastic lurcher, not great with little dogs.
